Borouge breaks ground for a new Innovation Centre in Abu Dhabi
Borealis’ joint-venture Borouge, a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, was breaking ground for its new Innovation Centre in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on April 27, 2010. With a total investment in excess of US$ 70 million in equipment and facilities, Borouge’s Innovation Centre in Abu Dhabi will work together with the European innovation centres of Borealis as well as with local and international educational institutions such as the Petroleum Institute of Abu Dhabi, to further develop the competence of polymer science in the United Arab Emirates. It is expected to be completed at the end of 2011.

Robbins Single Shield Launched on Laotian Hydro Scheme
Country's first TBM will help power up neighboring nation: In early 2010, contractor CMC di Ravenna oversaw the launch of the first tunnel boring machine ever to excavate in Laos. The 7.6 m (25.1 ft) diameter Robbins Single Shield TBM is digging a new hydroelectric tunnel for the Theun Hinboun Expansion Project, which will provide power to neighboring Thailand.

£25million to combat Counter?s Creek sewer flooding
Thames Water is spending up to £25million over the next five years on measures to stop basements flooding with sewage at properties in west London: Work from 2010 to 2015 in the Counter’s Creek area includes delivering a short-term solution - fitting more than 600 pumping systems to protect the worst-affected properties - while research and design continues on a long-term solution - a larger sewer network costing several hundred million pounds.

Robbins Main Beams burrow under Low Cover: Dual TBMs launched in World's Most Populous City
Two 6.4 m (21.0 ft) diameter Robbins Main Beam TBMs were launched in winter 2009-2010 beneath Chongqing, China - a mega-city of over 35 million people. The two machines are excavating twin 12 km (7.5 mi) long tunnels for Line 6 of the Chongqing Metro, and are the first hard rock TBMs to be used in the city.

Borealis distributes Student Innovation Award 2009
Borealis, a leading provider of chemical and innovative plastics solutions has selected the winners of its Student Innovation Award 2009. Launched in 2008, the award recognises the two most innovative research papers on polyolefins, olefins or melamine, one for a master's degree and one for a doctorate graduate. 1. Introduction In the densely populated cities of the world, drainage systems must be designed to carry away both the waste water from the population and the run-off from short and long rainfall events. The urban drainage method that has been mostly used is the so- called combined system, namely the simultaneous combination of waste-water and rainwater in a common pipe. Compared to the separate system this method has the economic advantage that urban drainage can be operated and managed using a single pipe system.

Kingdom of Bahrain presents National Master Plan for Sanitary Engineering at the Underground Infrastructure Middle East 2010
The National Master Plan for Bahrain was developed during 2008/09 within the framework of the project "Consultancy Services for the Development of a National Master Plan for the Sanitary Engineering Services of the Kingdom of Bahrain" that was commissioned by the Bahrain Ministry of Works. The plan identifies the investment requirements for sanitary engineering services for the next 20 years and covers the whole wastewater system including sewers, wastewater treatment plants, the surface water drainage systems, and the bulk distribution system for the treated sewage effluent.
