Isle of Grain Pipe Jacking: HOBAS© CC-GRP Pipes for Liquefied Gas
In addressing future demands for alternative supplies of gas, the UK has seen the construction of a number of new terminals for the importation of liquefied natural gas (LNG) one of which is sited at the Isle of Grain on the Thames estuary. For the most economic transportation of the gas it is cooled to achieve this liquid state and needs to go through a process of regasification for use in the UK gas grid. The latter process is no more than raising its temperature back to ambient. This requires heat and at the Isle of Grain this is being supplied by utilizing surplus heat from the existing Isle of Grain power station in the form of hot water. A twin pipeline system connects the station’s two plants, part of which is installed inside tunnels using HOBAS CC-GRP jacking pipes.

Aqualiner receives NSF 61 Certification for its "Rembrandt" rehabilitation product to be used in the U.S. Drinking Water Infrastructure
Aqualiner Limited, a company commercialising a unique next generation trenchless pipelining technology for the water and sewerage markets, announces that its new water pipe lining product Rembrandt(TM) has received NSF/ANSI Standard 61 certification from the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF). This certification means the Rembrandt product meets the rigid standards required for products used in drinking water system components in the U.S. water infrastructure. This includes protecting against leaching or migrating of contaminants into the drinking water supply.

Philadelphia Awards Insituform $6.0 Million Contract to Rehabilitate Sewer Pipes and Preserve Tacony Creek Park
The Philadelphia Water Department ("PWD") has awarded Insituform Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq Global Select Market: INSU) a $6.0 million contract to rehabilitate approximately 10,000 feet of sanitary sewer pipes that run beneath the urban meadows of one of Philadelphia’s largest parks. China: Herrenknecht-Mixshields set a new milestone during the Yangtze crossing
After the successful completion of the "Shanghai Changjiang Under River Tunnel Project", two further Herrenknecht Mixshield giants, each with a diameter of 14.93m, crossed beneath the Yangtze River. They reached their target in Nanjing on May 20 and August 22, respectively, after their underground journey of almost 3km. The "Nanjing Yangtze River Tunnel" with its three traffic lanes in each direction will ease the traffic load in this big city.

15,000th Ring Marks Milestone for Robbins Double Shield
Long-distance TBM nears completion of China's Pinglu Tunnel: Spanning over 10 years and 200 km (124 mi) of tunnel, China’s Yellow River Water Diversion Project can only be called epic. The latest installment of the extensive scheme, known as the Pinglu Tunnel, will be one of the world’s longest tunnels excavated with a single TBM. On July 9, 2009, the 4.8 m (15.7 ft) diameter Robbins Double Shield TBM boring the waterway set ring no. 15,000, making the tunnel nearly three quarters complete.

Promoting Trenchless Technology in Middle East
9th - 11th November 2009, Abu Dhabi - UAE: Even though the market conditions are rather slow these days the area of trenchless market does not seem to be affected all that much. The rapid growth of urban population along with rising congestion in such areas no longer allow major road disruption when installing new or repairing existing pipeline network. Added to this, the deteriorating state of existing underground infrastructures is bringing us into a situation where no disruption methodologies are becoming a must.

AWWA to Congress: Water Infrastructure Bank concept holds water
The American Water Works Association (AWWA) urged members of Congress to create a federal water infrastructure bank to help America invest in its aging water systems. In testimony before the House Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment, Chips Barry, a former member of AWWA’s Water Utility Council and current manager of Denver Water, told the committee that the United States is best served by water systems that sustain themselves through consumer rates and other local financing. However, the federal government can help by providing access to low-interest loans.
