Historically the main focus of the technical group, which was set up over a decade ago, was wastewater treatment plants up to 50 population equivalent (PE). The group will now fully include wastewater systems up to 1,000 PE.

VINCI and HOCHTIEF to Design and Build Metro Line in Copenhagen

VINCI and HOCHTIEF, in a joint venture, have been awarded the design and build contract for Sydhavn Metro Line (Line 4) in Copenhagen. The client Metroselskabet has awarded the contract to an equal-parts joint venture consisting of VINCI Construction Grands Projets and HOCHTIEF Infrastructure. HOCHTIEF will be the technical leader of the joint venture. The €460 million contract was signed on February 28, 2018 in Copenhagen.

A dilapidated steel pipeline frequently in need of repair was located in an ecologically sensitive area which has meanwhile been reclassified as an FFH site. In order to avoid further disruptions due to repair work, the old pipeline needed to be replaced without disturbing the biotope and without going in with heavy equipment. Nowadays tasks of this kind are solved very elegantly with ductile iron pipes which are pulled in by means of the single pipe assembly HDD “nonimpact” process.

Mongolia is among those greatly struggling to keep their supplies of fresh water flowing. Since 2006, Fraunhofer researchers have been working hard to establish a sustainable water management system in the Mongolian city of Darkhan and the surrounding area. Their efforts in the second-largest industrial region in the country – covered by thousands of acres of steppe and desert – are now proving to be a great success. Reducing leaks in the region’s water distribution network from 50 to 25 percent is just one of their accomplishments. A project is currently underway to install new pipelines, pump systems and waste water treatment plants.
