Emmi Roth Addresses Wastewater Disposal Costs & Environmental Impact with New Anaerobic System
Jan 26, 2018
Evoqua’s ADI Systems to help cheese producer become environmentally and economically sustainable.
Evoqua’s ADI Systems has been awarded an exciting project with Emmi Roth, a leading provider of specialty cheeses. The company’s expansive portfolio includes many award-winning cheeses including Gouda, Havarti, Buttermilk Blue®, and Roth® Grand Cru® Surchoix, the 2016 winner of the prestigious World Championship Cheese Contest.
Emmi Roth wanted to be more independent, lower its operational costs, and above all, remain environmentally responsible, leading them towards on-site anaerobic pretreatment as the preferred solution. To help address the needs of Emmi Roth, ADI Systems was selected to design, build, and commission a 1 MG ADI-BVF® unit to anaerobically pre-treat wastewater from its operations. This innovative technology is recognized for its ease of use, low energy consumption, and low sludge hauling costs.
The ADI-BVF® unit is well suited for dairy wastewater because it can reliably treat moderate-to-high concentrations of organics (COD/BOD), suspended solids, and fat, oil, and grease (FOG) in a single stage—typically without the need for primary treatment. Emmi Roth’s investment in the anaerobic technology will also allow the company to utilize biogas as a source of energy in the future, if desired.
The new wastewater treatment solution at Emmi Roth’s Platteville, Wisconsin, USA, cheese plant will help contribute to their ongoing commitment to sustainability—both environmentally and economically.
Substantial completion of work is expected in June 2018.
