International Experts to Present at Microtunneling Short Course
Jan 08, 2016
23rd Annual Event Is Scheduled for Feb. 9-11 in Boulder, Colorado
Educating the industry since 1994, the Microtunneling Short Course is back and better than ever for 2016. Now in its 23rd year, the Microtunneling Short Course boasts an international slate of instructors who cover all facets of the microtunneling market over three full days. The event is scheduled for Feb. 9-11, 2016, in an exciting new location – the University of Colorado in Boulder.
Course presenters come from North America, Europe and Asia, highlighting the tried-and-true fundamentals as well as boundary-pushing technologies that are being used in the international marketplace. Presentations cover design, planning, ground investigation, pipe materials, equipment, guidance, legal issues, spoils handling, case studies and more.
“It’s been more than 20 years since we started the Microtunneling Short Course, and it is amazing to see how much the industry has grown and continues to develop,” said Tim Coss of Microtunneling, who serves as Course Director with Levent Ozdemir, tunneling consultant. “Each year we add new topics to the agenda because of the technical advances the industry is making all the time. We continue to expand the boundaries of what we are capable of doing with microtunneling.”
In addition to classroom instruction, the Microtunneling Short Course offers a wealth of networking and social opportunities. On the agenda is a reception, hosted by Akkerman Inc., on Feb. 10, and the annual banquet on Feb. 11. It is at the banquet that the annual Microtunneling Achievement Award winners will be honored. This year’s winners are Grahame Turnbull (consultant), Julian O’Connell (Herrenknecht), Troy Stokes (Akkerman) and Dan Schitea (Vadnais). Lunch and coffee breaks also allow participants to learn from and share their experiences with others in the industry.
In conjunction with the Microtunneling Short Course, a one-day Pilot Tube Seminar will be held on Feb. 8.
The Microtunneling Short Course is held in partnership with Trenchless Technology magazine and Benjamin Media Inc. The organizers also host the Ground Improvement Short Course (May 23-25, 2016, Boulder, Colorado) and the Tunneling Short Course (September 2016, Boulder, Colorado).
