Mechanized Tunneling and Microtunneling Short Course – A Great Success

TSITT (Turkish Society for Infrastructure and Trenchless Technology) held the MECHANIZED TUNNELING AND MICROTUNNELING SHORT COURSE in Sanliurfa Hilton Hotel TR in October 2012 with the valuable support of TTS (Turkish Tunneling Society) and ISTT. Many local and international participants attended this unique mechanized tunneling and microtunneling short course of Turkey.
MECHANIZED TUNNELING AND MICROTUNNELING SHORT COURSE started with the welcoming speech of Mr. Yasin Torun - Chairman of TSITT and Prof. Dr. Nuh Bilgin - Chairman of TTS. Afterwards, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cemal Balci of ITU (Istanbul Technical University) made a presentation with the title of ‘Site and Laboratory Investigations’. Then, Prof. Dr. Nuh Bilgin of ITU made a presentation with the title of ‘Principles of TBM Design and Selection, Problems Encountered in Large Diameter TBM Tunneling’. Thereafter, Mr. Bahadir Cinar of PENATRADE made a presentation with the title of ‘Utility Tunnelling’.
In the afternoon session, Prof. Dr. Nuh Bilgin made a presentation on ‘Machine Selection and Performance Prediction: 25 Years of Experience in Mechanized Excavations in Turkey’. Then, Mr. Taner Bilge of MATES made a presentation with the title of ‘Wear Protection and Hard-Facing Applications in TBMs’. Afterwards, Dr.Ing.E.h. Martin Herrenknecht of HERRENKNECHT made an excellent presentation on ‘Newest Technology and Trends in Mechanized Tunnelling’. Then, Prof. Dr. Hanifi Copur of ITU made a presentation with the title of ‘Roadheaders and Impact Hammers, Machine Selection, Performance Prediction, Applications’. Mr. Enis Arioglu of YAPI MERKEZI made the last presentation of the 1st day with the title of Istanbul Strait Crossing Roadway Tunnel Project.
The 2nd day of the short course started with the presentation of Prof. Dr. Daniele Peila of POLITECNICO DI TORINO with the title of ‘Soil Conditioning, Face Treatment and EPB Applications in Italy’. Afterwards, Mr. Muammer Cinar of TTS made a presentation on ‘TBM Applications in Gassy Grounds’. Then, Mr. Suat Seven of BASF made a presentation with the title of ‘Chemical Agents in TBM Applications’. Thereafter, Mr. Fevzi Aksu of IKSA made a presentation on ‘Mobile Laboratory for Ground-Muck Conditioning Applications in Shielded Tunnelling’.
The afternoon session started with the presentation of Mr. Ozgur Savas Ozudogru of E-BERK with the title of ‘Manufacturing of Disc Cutters, Selection of Suitable Disc Masterial for Different Formations, General View and Suggestions’. Then Dr. Mucahit Namli of IMM (Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality) made a presentation on ‘Microtunnelling Applications in Turkey’. Prof. Dr. Nuh Bilgin of ITU made the last presentation of the 2nd day with the title of TBM Applications in Squeezing Grounds, Collapses and Practical Suggestions. Mr. Yasin Torun of TSITT made the closing speech of the short course. All of the participants received ‘Certificate of Training’ for their valuable participation to the short course.
