Yonkers (NY) selects Mueller Systems to upgrade its water infrastructure
Jan 03, 2014
New state-of-the-art system will improve reliability and efficiency of water meter readings and service.
Mayor Mike Spano today announced the City of Yonkers is partnering with Mueller Systems, a leading provider of innovative and technologically advanced water infrastructure products and services, to overhaul its aging water meter infrastructure and improve the level of service provided to residents.
"This is about providing Yonkers taxpayers with the best available services and tools to more efficiently manage water usage," said Mayor Mike Spano. "Building new state-of-the-art water infrastructure will improve the reliability, clarity and timeliness of water bills and communication between the City and residents."
Mueller Systems is a subsidiary of Mueller Water Products, Inc., a leading North American manufacturer and marketer of products and services that are used in the transmission, distribution and measurement of water.
The project includes implementation of Mueller System's MegaNetTM System -- a high-powered, long-range, fixed-network, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) system. The communication system is capable of delivering long-range results with a reliable communication infrastructure. The MegaNetTM technology has been in existence for 25 years and has nearly two million transmitters installed in more than 80 countries.
In addition, the City is scheduled to install approximately 30,000 Mueller Systems water meters throughout the City by the end of 2014. The City will also offer its customers tools to manage their water consumption by implementing Mi.DataTM, Mueller Systems' consumer portal. This consumer portal provides utility customers with access to information about their water usage, enhancing service levels and communication between the City and its water consumers.
"We are excited to partner with The City of Yonkers to improve its water infrastructure," said Hassan Ali, vice president and general manager of Mueller Systems. "The MegaNet System and Mi.DataTM are designed to provide a foundation to automate the collection of meter readings, provide customers with a better understanding of their water bills, help identify leaks that are responsible for losing treated water and promote greater operating efficiencies for the City."
